Royal Botanical Park
A map of the Royal Botanical Park.
The Royal Botanical Park is truly a spectacular place. Although it was not on our itinerary, our tour guide suggested it, and I am very glad that he did. The park is quite large, containing a lake, a play park, and an information center. When you first enter, you are taken to the information center to see an informative video about the park and the wildlife that lives in it. The center also has fun quizzes on the wall, informative posters about the animals and plants in the park, and fun interactive activities.
You may tour the park as you see fit, and visiting the lake is a must. It has two pedal boats that can be used free of charge around the lake. There are many kinds of interesting insects around the lake, but none are harmful and will fly away from you as soon as they notice you. In the middle of the lake is a type of natural bridge made from rocks, though it can be dangerous to cross so take caution.
Further past the lake is a play park with swings, a slide, and other fun things for people of all ages to enjoy. It also includes stumps with foot prints of animals that can be seen in Bhutan, teaching the people at the play park as they enjoy themselves. In the back of the play park is a very fun long swing that allows two people to be swung at once on a bench that is held up with elastic rope. It can go very high and very fast!
Many kinds of animals can be found in the park, though some are more rare that others. For example, a small type of mouse, called a Pika, can be found in burrows around the park. However, other, larger animals can be found as well, such as Bengal Tigers, Red Pandas, and Bears, though these are extremely rare. While we were at the park, we only saw the Pika, and I have to say, although seeing a Bengal Tiger in the wild would have been amazing, I am glad that we missed the chance.
