The Takin
A sign giving information about the Takin.
The Takin is the national animal of Bhutan and a herd of them are kept in a preservation project in Bhutan. The site used to be a small zoo, but the people of Bhutan couldn't stand keeping all the animals locked up in cages, so they were set free. The Takin, however, was kept since it is the national animal of Bhutan and provides cultural and historical significance. It is also part of the World Wildlife Foundation, or the WWF.
The Takin is a large animal that resembles a mixture between a deer, a pig, and a bull. They can be playful, but sometimes some of the Takin have to be separated, as they can get too rough and hurt each other or themselves. At the reservation, the Takin tended to stay away from the fences where people were viewing from, so getting a good picture can be difficult. Patience can pay off though, as they do come a little closer the less people there are and the less movement they notice.
