Nature
Nature is a very important part of the culture and history of Bhutan. Students start studying Environmental Science, EVS, from an early age, as can be see by the class schedule for young elementary level students on the left. Keeping Bhutan clean and healthy is part of many campaigns, posters, and is ingrained in the people. It is not uncommon to see a Bhutanese person stop their walk to plant a seed that they found on the side of the road or cliff.
Bhutan is the only country in the world that can boast a positive growth of forest each year. The country takes great care to ensure that the nature of the land is kept safe and stable, and so over 30% of the country is designated as protected areas. (See the images below in the slide-show for a map of the protected areas.)
